A bit about me.
This page is WIP. There will be changes, readability tweaks, more content, and dynamic features.
Hi. I'm Martin. A carer, part-time software developer, and humble, stumbling quester for truth.
For the person in my life requiring care life is often frustrating and sometimes scary. I am a carer because I want that person to feel there is a safety net; that there's someone there when things go wrong.
As for coding - when I was a child I played with Lego. Now I plug bits of code together and see if the result is a success. It gives me a similar sense of creative satisfaction.
I'm not firing on all cylinders, but I live in hope that I will eventually crack the puzzle of how to thrive in my current circumstances. I can see glimpses of how life could be great if only my daily experience wasn't like trying to read the instructions for living whilst at the bottom of a muddy river with dead leaves floating in front of my eyes, and the current dragging the pages away.
I'm not religious - although I do appreciate the quote "We are a way for the universe to know itself."(Sagan)
Both of these roles are vital to me. I enjoy the reward of problem solving and developing software in which I can feel confident. Coding C++ and/or Python using Visual Studio Code on my Linux Desktop is my happy place (when things are going to plan) but I've been doing this for yonks so I've picked up a few other skills along the way \todo links .
So I am keen to explore modern language features to catch issues early, and employ good testing (eg. TDD/BDD) to continually improve code quality.
TODO: Have I covered ... caring, difficulties, interests in brief - with links, projects in brief - with links.
Many years of varied development experience.
I care about doing a good job.
